Vizio's New XVT, M and E Series HDTVs

Hitachi's New UltraVision & Alpha LCD HDTVs

The new LCD HDTV product line offers extensive features, superior performance and elegant design while achieving pricing that will be attractive to value oriented shoppers.

Hitachi's UltraVision® series, which headlines the first of two new series of LCD HDTVs, will be available in a 55" home theater model and in 46" and 42" screen sizes. Sharp Introduces new AQUOS E Series of LCD TVs

 

Sharp has just announced its new AQUOS E Series of Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) TVs, including the E77U models and the E67U models.

The technology behind Sharp’s E Series models is designed to work with any kind of in room lighting, providing an optimal viewing experience in any light condition.  Through this proprietary AQUOS Advanced Super View (ASV) Superlucent Panel, viewers will notice dramatically brighter and crisper picture quality. The E Series also incorporates an elegant new design, featuring décor-friendly colour accents at the bottom of the frame and, with E77U models, a newly-designed swivel stand that makes it easy to adjust the television angle.

Morel's Two New SoundSpot 6.1 Systems

Morel introduces two models of its spherically-designed SoundSpot Music Theatre 5.1 speaker system.

The SoundSpot MT 1 consists of five 3.5" satellite speakers (model SP-1) and one PSW8 Subwoofer that offers 100W of power. It is a two-way point source system.

The SoundSpot MT 2, which will ship in Q3, features five 4" satellite speakers (model SP-2) and the 8" PSW8 Subwoofer.

Cabasse's New Altura Series Floorstanding Loudspeakers

Cabasse has unveiled its new Altura MC Series of floorstanding loudspeakers. The two sets in the series are the Iroise 3 and the Egea 3. Two other models are also planned.

The three-way speakers include Cabasse's point source driver technology and the BC13 co-axial midrange tweeter, which now has more bandwidth and improved efficiency and power handling,

LG's WiFi-Enabled Blu-Ray Player

Announced back at CES 2009, the LG BD390 is now official.

This Blu-ray player is the first DivX HD 1080p certified player.

In addition, it boasts an 802.11n WiFi module (backwards compatible with 802.11b/g) and support for DivX streaming from a DLNA server. The player includes BD-Live support, 7.1-channel audio output, 1GB of inbuilt memory and a USB 2.0 socket.

The onboard memory allows saving of pictures and other media for playback without the USB stick.

Triad's New In-Room & In-Wall Subwoofers

Triad is introducing 10 in-room, 3 rack amp, and a pair each of in-ceiling and in-wall models, all of which feature DSP technology, new enclosures, and improved drivers.

The DSP interfaces integrated into Triad's PlateAmps and RackAmps measure low frequencies, and identify and correct peaks and nulls, resulting in more uniform bass. Installers can also use a PC to further fine-tune the DSP, or to create their own custom equalization.

Shaw Communications to Offer 3D Content to its Cable Subscribers in Canada

 

Shaw Communications and Corus Entertainment recently struck a deal that will enable Shaw to deliver 3D TV to its cable customers, marking Shaw as the first cable provider to offer 3D programming in Canada. 

The initial wave of content will be available this summer through Shaw’s Video on Demand service.  At launch, the titles will include: NASCAR: The IMAX Experience and film titles such as Journey to the Center of the Earth based on Jules Verne's classic tale of exploration, and Warner Bros.'s Deep Sea, the 3-D IMAX underwater adventure narrated by Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp.

Harmon Kardon's First Blu-Ray Player

Harmon Kardon is the latest manufacturer to enter the Blu-Ray arena with their BDP-10 player.

The BDP-10 will have advanced audio codec support and will play back 1080/24p videos without pulldown conversion. It displays JPEG photos and DiVX videos burned to discs from external USB drives.

Connections include an HDMI 1.3a with x.v.Color output, component and RCA video outputs, an Ethernet jack, coaxial and optical audio outputs as well as traditional two-channel analog audio output.

HMV's DVD to Blu-Ray Promotion

For the entire month of May, consumers can exchange their old DVDs for discounts on specially marked Blu-ray discs from Twentieth Century Fox and MGM Home Entertainment at HMV stores nationally. The "Go Green with Blu" campaign was originally conceived as a way of ensuring that older DVDs are safely recycled. The program expanded to ensure that high-quality DVDs that are brought in are donated to children's hospitals and libraries.

Trading in old DVDs earn consumers a $7 discount off the purchase of almost 250 Twentieth Century Fox and MGM Blu-ray disc titles.

Sonance's Invisible Speakers

Sonance, which specializes in architectural loudspeakers that blend in with walls and ceilings, introduces its new Invisible line of products, which include the SA3 and SA1.5 omnidirectional loudspeakers and the SAW subwoofer.

All three are perfectly flat, with an acoustically transparent vellum overlay, which can be painted or even wallpapered over.

A new MDF baffle material aids in the acoustics and needing just 3 7/8" of depth and installable in standard 2x4 stud bays, the Invisible speakers make for easy and reliable installation in walls or ceiling.

Audyssey Laboratories Introduces Dynamic Surround Expansion (DSX)

 

Audyssey Laboratories is announcing its latest technology, Dynamic Surround Expansion (DSX). DSX is a scalable system that adds new speakers to overcome the spatial sound rendering limitations faced by 5.1 surround sound systems.

Since the release of its award winning MultEQ software in 2004, Audyssey Laboratories has performed extensive internal and university research to create technologies that improve audio playback quality.  DSX follows in this tradition.

To perceive a truly immersive experience, human hearing requires more information than what 5.1 systems currently deliver.

Sony's Latest Blu-Ray Player & Home Theatre System

Sony Canada announces its latest Blu-ray player and matching Blu-ray home-theatre systems.

The BDP-S360 Blu-ray player features built-in decoding of the high-resolution DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD7.1-channel surround-sound codecs. This is the first entry-level Blu-ray player from Sony to incorporate that feature.

The new player offers full support of BD-Live which allows viewers to download and stream bonus content such as additional scenes, trailers and movie-based games. BD-Live content can be downloaded from studio websites and saved onto an optional USB flash storage device connected to the player's USB port.

Momitsu Launches Region-free Blu-ray Player

For those that watch movies from other regions (such as Europe or Asia) or have moved from one region to another, region-free players are a useful addition to any home theatre.
