HD Movies Now on iTunes Canda

For those with Internet-connected media servers in their home-theatre setups, Apple's iTunes Canadian store is finally offering high-definition movie downloads.

High definition movies are available for rent or purchase. Previously, Apple had only offered HD movies in Canada through Apple TV.

New release HD movies at the iTunes Canada Movie store will cost $24.99 CAD to purchase and $5.99 CAD to rent.

New release standard definition titles will cost $19.99 CAD to buy and $4.99 CAD to rent.

Gemme Audio Introduces G Series Loudspeakers

Gemme Audio has just announced that it will introduce a new G Series of loudspeakers in early 2010. The G series consists of three models, and each model will be available in Type S or Type R to suit the needs of audiophiles. KEF to Unveil Concept Blade Speaker at Upcoming 2010 CES

 

British loudspeaker manufacturer KEF will formally introduce its Concept Blade speaker for the first time to a North American audience at the upcoming CES (January 7-10, 2010) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

KEF says the loudspeaker represents years of testing, analysis and experimentation by the loudspeaker manufacturer.

Logitech Squeezebox Touch Release Date Delayed to February 2010

We, at CANADA HiFi, are big fans of Logitech’s Squeezebox streaming system – in fact, we’ve got two zones setup in our test lab.

 

The company’s Squeezebox Touch, announced earlier this year, was suppose to be out before Christmas but now has been officially delayed until February 2010.

WHDI Specification v1.0 Released

The WHDI standard enables full 1080p/60Hz HD with Deep Color at a distance of 100 feet and through walls.

WHDI provides a high-quality, uncompressed wireless link that enables the delivery of video data rates of up to 3Gbps (including 1080p/60Hz) in a 40MHz channel in the 5GHz unlicensed frequency, conforming to worldwide 5GHz spectrum regulations. Latency is less than 1ms.

WHDI also supports HDCP revision 2.0 to provide studio-approved security and digital content protection.

Yamaha's Two New Soundbars

Yamaha Canada has announced two new soundbars which are thinner than previous models. They'll look great underneath the latest generation of slim bezel HDTVs.

Similar to previous Yamaha soundbars, both the YSP-4100 and YSP-5100, virtually recreate the soundfield of a discrete seven-channel audio system from a single box located under the display. The 5100 is about 7" longer (47-1/4") than the 4100 (40-1/2"). Both are 8-3/8" high and 3-1/2" deep.
