Krell Industries has just announced a substantial upgrade to the Evolution lineup of amplifiers. The new enhanced, Evolution e Series, delivers greater fidelity while at the same time reducing its carbon footprint.
Without a doubt, the theme for this year's CES is 3D but what good is the technology if there's no content to go along with it? It may be fun being an early adopter, but having an expensive 3D HDTV sitting in your living room without any content is like having a gourmet kitchen at a research station at the North Pole.
Hot on the heels of all the 3D HDTV unveilings, two major cable networks, ESPN and Discovery, have announced that they plan to start beaming 3D content in the near future.
Luxman will release its new mid-range integrated amplifier model L-507u at CES 2010 in Las Vegas. The L-507u is an integrated amplifier equipped with the original Luxman high-quality sound feedback circuit, ODNF, in its latest upgraded version 3.0 and delivering a rated class AB output of 200W (4Ω load).

With the continued adoption of Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-MA, as well as the forthcoming 3D standards, Blu-Ray discs are getting an added boost to make room for this additional data. A new method will increase per-layer capacity from 25 GB to 33.4 GB, through a new method of interpreting the data on the disc. The new method is likely to accelerate development of discs offering even more storage space.
For audiophiles that want to cut down on the number of components they have in their system without compromising on audio quality, Oppo's BD-83 Special Edition is there to fill the niche.
The BD-83 SE has an upgraded digital-to-audio converter and analog audio stage as well as an improved, isolated power supply. At the back, it has a full set of 7.1 channel analog outputs for receivers that don't support HDMI audio.
The Special Edition uses a Sabre32 DAC frmo ESS Technology. The player's dedicated stereo outputs uses a separate 8-channel Sabre32 DACs, one for each channel.
As stated in my earlier article (June/July 2009 issue), room modes cause standing waves that can cause three acoustical problems: a level boost at some frequencies, an extent of the duration of sound at those same frequencies (resonance) and some profound dips at other frequencies.
For those looking for the truly discrete look for their flat-panel HDTV, Q Acoustics has the solution for you.
Their Q-TV2 is a complete 2.1 stereo audio system that fits completely behind your HDTV. This is ideal for placements where you don't want unsightly speakers, wires or other equipment showing.
The subwoofer is "vibration-free" and the left & right speakers' positions can be adjusted to fit any TV from 32" up to 42".
Unfortunately when home audio systems are set up, the acoustics of the listening room are rarely taken into account.Indeed, most people opt for expensive, top of the range sound systems in an attempt to reach the best-possible sound quality. But they often ignore one essential thing: the acoustics of the listening room itself. As a sound system is used in an enclosed space (the listening room), the acoustical conditions of the room will inevitably take control of the sound quality.
High-end audio manufacturers and enthusiasts go to great lengths to minimize the undesirable effects of mechanical vibrations on audio components.Hence most higher-end components are housed in heavy duty chassis and instead of having all electronics built into a single chassis we have separate CD players, pre-amplifiers and amplifiers.
Introducing an innovative two-piece home theater audio package, the YHT-S400 consists of an ultra-slim "sound bar" front speaker and a first-of-its-kind subwoofer-integrated receiver.
That's right: the receiver has the subwoofer built in! How it'll affect the electronics remains to be seen, but this is definitely a first!
The YHT-S400 provides HD Audio compatibility, three 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs (and one output), Yamaha's exclusive AIR SURROUND XTREME, UniVolume and Extended Stereo technologies.
