The adage "Build it and they will come" pops into my mind when reading news that Marchon, a mainstream eyewear manufacturer most famous for their flexible Flexon frames, has announced that it has partnered with ReadID to manufacture stylish 3D-capable glasses that also double as regular sunglasses.
These glasses are different than the active shutter 3D glasses that are required by 3D HDTVs in the home and are simply polarized for use with Real3D screens in theatres. (Theatre 3D allows the viewer to only require cheap polarized glasses that separate the left and right images. This is made possible through the reflected image off the silver-lined screen, which differs from the active transmission of images from home HDTVs.)
The glasses will come in a variety of styles and also feature complete UV-A and UV-B protection for outdoor use.
Pricing and date have not yet been announced but since the adaptation is a minor change to the polarization, the premium should not be substantial. Many premium sunglasses are already polarized to filter out glare.
